Sunny Beach, Bulgaria
The first major resort south of Varna, Sunny Beach (Slantchev Bryag) occupies a pretty stretch of coast just south of Cape Emine and north of Nessebar. It stands 35 km north-east of Bourgas and 100 km south of Varna. The resort is Bulgaria's largest. The surrounding forests as well as the smooth sea breeze make days and nights here surprisingly nice. The wide, six-kilometer-long beach is protected by dunes and touted as the best on the coast with comfortable 24C/75F degree water and loads of sunny days. A number of different attractions such as bowling, tennis, mini-golf, cycling, surfing, water ski, etc. are offered. There is a modern aqua park in which you can spend the whole day.Night Life is as equally varied and includes casinos, discos and nightclubs with live cabaret acts and colorful floor shows. This diversity will turn the short-period rest into an unforgettable experience. Two camp sites – ‘Sunny Beach’ and ‘Emona’ are near the resort. The resort’s urban system is developed following coast line. The buildings are erected amid the park. The different type of 1- and 2-storey buildings in which romance and intimacy were the main objectives as well as the hotel buildings, built around the yards in a monastery style, are amazing. What To Do Sunny Beach lives up to its motto of "Where families come first." Children and toddlers are kept occupied with the likes of kiddie trains, well-equipped playgrounds, and organized festivals. But not only kids have all the fun. Adult sports include windsurfing, sailing, parasailing, speedboating, scooter-driven parachuting, pedalboating, waterskiing, horseback riding, archery, mini-golf, roller and in-line skating, bowling, tennis, bicycling, beach volleyball, and wall climbing. Sunny Beach is the locale for the Bulgarian popular song festival "Golden Orpheus" held in early June and features contemporary, Western-influenced pop and love ballads. For the more culturally minded, the Bourgas opera and philharmonic occasionally put on performances in the outdoor theater. |
