Pazardzhik, Bulgaria
The town of Pazardzhik is 205 meters above the sea level. It is situated at the distance of 114 km south–east of Sofia, 36 km west of Plovdiv, 20 km north of Peshtera and 43 km south of Panagyurishte.
It was founded 5 centuries ago, in 1485 and 1934 called it Tatar–Pazardzhik. Tatars were its founders, moved here by Sultan Bayazid, who gave the name of the town. The commercial center gradually turned into an important economic and administrative center. The road Istanbul–Sofia heading to Western Europe on which the town was a road station contributes to it. A lot of Bulgarians settled down in Pazardzhik and that changed its ethnic appearance too. The town reached its fluorescence during the 19th century and competed to Sofia and Plovdiv. In this period a lot of churches were built. Vassil Levski founded the first revolutionary committee here chaired by G. Konsulov.

Landmarks
The town Museum of History is located in one of the newest and the most representative buildings of the town. You can also visit the Ethnographic Museum, whose exhibition is housed in the biggest residential building in Pazardzhik – the house of Nikolai Hristovich. It is proclaimed as a cultural monument.
The Art Gallery “Stanislav Dospevski” hosts a specialized state cultural, educational and scientific institute of fine arts.
Another point of interest is The Synagogue (The Jewish Monastery) – built in 1859 by the mastery from Bratsigovo – Stavri Temelkov. The internal walls are with mural paintings. The house – museum “Konstantiv Velichkov” was built in 1850. The atmosphere, in which the distinguished writer lived and created, was re–created.

Surrounding areas
The place of death the great writer and democrat Aleko Konstantinov is situated at the distance of 14 km. south, in the proximity of the village of Radilovo. An unpretentious monument was erected here and a beautiful park was formed around it.
Besaparskite ridove (Besapar Elevations) are located at the distance of 10 km. to the east of the town. The archeological research carried out indicated that the main town of Thracian – “Besapara” was situated here.
