Today it stretches 11-metres above the ground, and the gate ‘Kamilite’ /’The Camels’/ is 13 meters tall. The ancient amphitheatre – it is situated in ‘Momina salza’ park. Perfectly preserved is the semicircular arena – a battlefield and an entertainment scene during the ancient period. The Basilicas – here are the remains of 10 early-Christian basilicas discovered in region of Hissaria. This is a sign for the importance of the city as a developed Christian center back in old days. The Roman baths – the remains of three Roman baths are located. In ‘Momina salza’ park you will find a huge almost fully-preserved Roman balneological complex. The Roman cemetery – it is situated at about 300 metres southwest from the Fortress wall in the ‘Slaveev dol’ park. This is the biggest and most interesting one from all that have been discovered in this area. You will be impressed with the amazing floor inlay in a carpet-style. The Emperor’s residence – again, it is situated in ‘Momina salza’ park. The main building’ remains are 6 meters tall. ‘St Dimitar’ Church – the oldest one, constructed 1845-1850. It was burned down during the April rebellion and built again in 1882. This church is a monument of culture since July 16th, 1982. In 2004 was renewed and icon-painted. The summer theatre – constructed in the amphitheatre-style. Located in the beautiful ‘Orfeev dol’ park, 1700 seats. The colonnade in city’s centre – on the arch above the fountain are portrayed the eight ancient divinities of health, and on the colonnade itself – the main crystals of the mineral water. |
